Bring Vacation Brain home

(Originally published 6/24/2022)

I’m on a weekend retreat with my kids.

I feel at peace, content, present.

I want to bring this back home.

Here’s the magic in this … since we create anything with our minds, that means I can create this at home too.

So I’m thinking about what I’m doing and thinking that is creating this…

Some actions I took today:

  • I let go of control (about schedules for everyone, how I should feel, what I should be thinking about)

  • I cared for myself a lot. I ate 3 meals. I rested. I meditated twice. I took a walk in nature. I cried.

  • I wasn’t stuck in wanting something different

  • I wasn’t resisting the present or blocking presence.

  • I wasn’t trying to get thru the day or pushing through the day.

  • At one point I noticed tension in my shoulders and breathed through it. There was nothing to protect against so it just relaxed.

  • No defensiveness. No pulling away.

Some thoughts I had:

  • It’s wonderful just the way it is

  • It’s okay to care for me

  • My kids can relax and recharge in their own ways

  • There’s enough time

  • When I relax my body feels safe

  • Peace can happen at any moment for me

When I have these thoughts I feel: love, caring, presence, abundance

The outcome I am creating is an amazing time with my amazing kids. I am happy.
